gameplay:

The Good Shepherd is a short turn-based game made for Acerola Jam 0 about resisting temptation, repenting from sin, and knowing when to strike.

combat consists of three phases:

1. lots phase - The Shepherd plays lots to determine His fate in combat.

 - red lots - determine the damage The Shepherd can do.

- blue lots - determine the defense The Shepherd can put up.

- black lots - 3 black lots give The Shepherd a random sin.

- white lots - determine the amount of health The Shepherd can heal with petition, or if 3 are collected, allow the Shepherd to purify a sin with petition.

2. action phase - all combatants choose their actions for the upcoming Turn Phase.

3. turn phase - selected actions are played out.

along the journey, The Shepherd may give in to temptation and embrace sins with various detrimental effects, but with the gifts of God, The Shepherd can repent.

Was the last fight even playtested at all? I already got softlocked on it twice and i have to restart the game again losing all my progress.

Also why does it load my GPU all the way up to 100%? I mean it plays smoothly but is it really necessary?

hi i know i’m a little late to respond, but i’m sorry the game was a frustrating experience for you :(. i made it in two weeks for a game jam and haven’t gone back to fix a lot of the problems. if you possibly remember what made the soft lock happen i could try to fix it but i understand it was a while ago. thank you for playing anyway :) (p.s. i made the shader for the game when i was completely new to compute shaders so it is a little intensive on some hardware)

Kinda dumb of me to not have reported the way to get softlocked in that message, but what's done is done I guess.

I remember clearly one of them: I got to 7/7 sins and instead of dying the game just stopped doing anything (like animations and sound were still playing, but I was literally softlocked and nothing was going on). It might have been a combination of two events (like getting 7/7 sins AND killing an enemy) I guess? Sorry if not helpful but that's all I can remember now. I will maybe play the game again and will see if I can get softlocked again, will tell you if I get it

a mistake I found: sins reset when you die

HOW DO I DEFEAT BAPHOMET

Full marks! You've created a beautiful landscape. And the combat model is simple and intuitive. Great job!

addicting gameplay, dope graphics, weird religious undertones; everything you want in a video game.
